Can I trim the dead from this coral?

I've had this frogspawn branch for about 6 months. Got it off craigslist. half the heads have been dead, other half do well. As a whole piece, it's awkward and clumsy.

I'd like to trim off the good parts and glue them to a piece of LR (after a quick iodine bath). Would this work?

Thanks in advance.

Yep. Exactly how you frag. Just make sure to leave enough of the stalk that you dont cut into the flesh.

+^^+ I used Dremel on my frogspawn this morning. -One branch was in shade made by the other branches and it did not open fully for several weeks now. I cut it off and placed it nearby in full light, for it to flourish.
Have fun

How recent is that pic? The heads that are still alive look highly PO'd IMHO. You can for sure frag off either the dead ones or the live ones, but if that is a recent pic, I'd also place figuring out why they look like that on the priority list. This is mine that looks close to the same size as yours.

Yah, there could be something wrong with it.

I bought a torch coral that had a few dead heads on it from my LFS. It went downhill from the time I purchased it. First it released its zooxanthellae and turned white, then it gradually died (I tried feeding it coral frenzy, no success).

If something is wrong with your temperature (too high) or salinity the frogspawn might die as a result.

In my albeit limited experience, my frogspawn is more sensitive to temperature fluctuations than anything. My kalk container ran out for three days after a business trip was extended, Alk dropped to ~5 dkh, everything else looked poor, frogspawn was fine.

I tried increasing the temp from 77.5 to 80, and the frogspawn took a hit similar to your pictures. Recovered quickly after returning to 77.5.
