Hello, I have a 50 gallon/200 litters tank and I already have one brand new bubble magus qq2 protein skimmer. I am planning to buy one more qq2. Considering the capacity of qq2 is 25 gallon, woud it be okay to use two qq2 instead of one another skimmer with 50 gallon capacity?

It depends on who you ask;)

Some claim that manufacturers overstate the capacity of their skimmers, meaning if the manufacturer states it's for 100 gallons, it is probably for less than that tank size. These people would recommend going up to the next model/size skimmer. I've seen many very successful reef tanks over the years that are "over-skimmed." I've never run my tanks by "over-skimming" them.

Others, tend to "under-skim" their tanks using smaller than the recommended size skimmer and have no issues and very successful tanks. Again, I've seen many tanks over the years that are "under-skimmed" that were very successful. The most successful reef I've ever had was very "under-skimmed" and filtration was mostly live rock and a Jaubert/NNR/Plenum system.

Yet, others, do not use skimmers at all. I've seen many tanks without skimmers that were very successful as well. In fact, my first reef tank (around 1990) did not have a skimmer, had a homemade trickle filter, and a HOB power filter. It was a pretty successful tank as well.

So, experiment and find what works for you.

In short most people do what ever they want and concoct reasons why that have no proof.

2 wont hurt a thing as long as you have room.

I have over skimmed and under skimmed. I think it also depends on what other means of filtration you have. I also believe there are many other factors there. How heavily you stock your tank and your feeding habits. I have a decent amount of fish and I tend to feed abit heavier. So I have my filtration setup to handle my current setup.

You need to figure out what your tank needs, what your habits are and just what personally works for your tank. I do believe there is a sweet spot for a skimmer and what its rated for.
