Can I use any RO system?

A friend is going to give me his Hydrotech smart tap. 4 stage RO with bladder. I figured I can just add a BRS DI canister and call it good.

It's 25 GPD I think, and I might have to change the RO membrane. If I have to replace all the filters, then I'm almost at the cost of a BRS RO/DI unit. I really like free, but I'm trying to figure out if it will be cost effective over the long haul. Just checking for usability first.

That system takes non-standard replacement filters. You'll have to buy specific filters made for that system, rather than "off-the-shelf" filters.

You are much better off buying a RO/DI that utilizes standard replacement filters... A RO/DI is only as good as the filters in it... There are many affordable replacement filters out there, and few go with the Kent/SpectraPure brand replacements to save costs... As Buckeye stated, if you buy that particular unit, you are locked into buying that particular brand replacement filters, thereby limiting your future options...

I would suggest looking around a bit more on the internet... There are many affordable units out there, and some of our sponsors have some available as well... ;)
