Can I use this pump for an aquarium?

This pump is situated on the ex-central heating system. Wondering if I could use it for aquaria?I don't really trust the oily hole (with the screw), although I am sure that it doesn't mix with the water as then it won't be suitable for central heating as well. It's obviously not submersible.

Yes, it can be used for the saltwater aquarium hobby. This is a cartrige pump which is suitable for pumping water in closed loop. It can be used for geo thermal cooling. I'm not sure how powerfull your pump is, but this kind of chilling I was going to use on my 180 tank. It's dirty cheap to use and probably the quitest chiller you can have.

If you have 230VAC/50Hz power available at the fishtank then it's possible to use...you may also want to talk to the manufacturer and see what materials the wet portion of the pump are made from....if anything in there is brass, copper, or low grade stainless, then it's a good idea to pass on it.

IMO not a sound decision. The pump is not designed to contact corrosive chemicals, does not use household AC, may contain copper, unnecessarily complicated, and is low flow to boot. It might be built better than the average aquarium pump but you have no idea how reliable it will be in SW. Small amount of corrosion could bind pump, or the seal could fail.

I think the biggest mechanical problem you would encounter is rapid damage to the rotor thrust bearing. The material is unsuitable for contact with SW and you would likely see runaway erosion-corrosion on the face.
