Can I use this to make a BeanAnimal overflow?

Yes, but you might want to keep shopping. That's a knockoff of the ghost overflow by reefsynergy. Bulkreefsupply sells the real thing, and with their free shipping it's probably not much more expensive. Plus they have good customer service, and accept returns, unlike that eBay seller.

Technically beananimal is the drain, and this box is the overflow. You can put a beananimal on other overflows, and you can put other drains on this overflow.

I beg to differ. Modular marine is easy to get a hold of and is a USA based company that stands by their product.

Synergy does not have a patent on an external overflow nor did they invent it.
 
I literally bought one of those today. But, I wanted a bigger internal box (18") and still have the 12" external box. He's making one custom for me, and also making it with a toothless wier. He's been very helpful getting me what I want!
 
I also have a MM overflow and the quality is excellent. Really like mine.

No apology needed. I didn't take it as rude. I just assume that a eBay seller is less profesh than a vendor like brs, there's obvi good ones too. I buy eBay stuff all the time, but with low expectations. Sounds like this seller has a good rep.

Make sure you ask him to send the welding glue with it too. I purchased one from this buyer and I had to redo the seals on it.

Because when I first ordered it I gave myself 3 weeks to get it. I was in the process of getting my new DT setup and needed it. When iI finally received it, I had less then 48 hours until I had to move my fish from my old setup. When I first ordered it the buyer stated I would have it by that weekend. It took me about 3-4 emails until he actually sent it. After I got it, all the seals for the inside of the box were not welded together. I didn't want to wait another 3 weeks to get it. So I called around and purchased welding glue and weld it myself.
