Can LR and corals transfer parasites to aquarium like ich and others?

Hi,

I am just curious about this because I just recently bought a powder blue tang and added new rocks to my tank and after 2 days I found ich on the fish. Also, this might be off topic but can I join a powder blue with a purple tang?

Hi Newflavor,

parasites can be intorduced on pretty much anything wet.

Powder Blues are notorious for being ich magnets. The PB probbaly had ich and stress, just from being in a new place probably gave the parasite the opportunity to attack.

It depends on the size of the tank for multiple tangs.

I have a 55 gallon tank. I got a purple tang, two clown fish, two blennies, purple fire fish in it. I am thinking of adding the powder blue I just got. Its in a 33 gallon qt tank right now.

Hi New,

You really need to make sure that PB is healthy. They are known to be ich magnets.

The other thing is that you 55 is well stocked. IF you add the PB and he is not healtyh the stress from being in a small environment can bring on the infection of parasites. And if you don't have ich in the main right now and you add the PB and he does then he is likly to spread the parasite to your other fish.

Good luck.

(Think about upgrading soon. =) )
