Can pistol shrimp kill gobies?

I have a candy striped pistol in my tank, goby-less.

I put a Yasha in there yesterday and guided him toward where the shrimp hangs out. Once the Yasha went in, I heard a couple pops from the shrimp.

My first thought was, man I just sent this Yasha in there and got him killed :worried2:

Wondering if maybe his presence startled the pistol and he reacted and killed him? I read the Tiger Pistols are more likely to kill fish due to their size, but wondering if its at least possible. The Yasha is larger than the pistol of course.. I know they'll hide early on anyway, but just wondering if anyone has a similar experience.

Thanks!

They can, but hopefully the goby used its instincts to avoid him. It may be hiding: being a small fish, they're quite shy and may just be in the rockwork. Be patient, don't move anything, and just wait: I've known gobies to stay hidden for 6 months.

I hope he was able to avoid it. I'll give it some time and see if he pokes his head out at all. I have seen the shrimp in the same hole today doin' work, but no goby.

I'll wait a bit and see what happens. Thanks :)

Well he's all good. Came out a few days ago with the shrimp. Feisty little guy. He was terrified of my dwarf flameback angelfish at first, now whenever he gets too close to his home, he charges at him and doesnt shoot back inside.
