can pyramidellid snails survive without a clam host?

Just was wondering if they can survive without a host and for how long? I have seen small snails that resemble them and I want to be sure before I add a clam to my tank.

Sure they will go after something else like other snails. Just keep your eye out on them and make sure they dont get near your clam.

I don't recomend a clam with those snails. those snails can die off with time with no food or with predators that eat them, however if you see them at night or on your snails, or whatever, I wouldn't get a clam because it's just going to be big head ache

what will eat them that is reef safe? i have them on my snails right now, i have been manually removing them, but there are always more.

Yes, more info please. I've had 2 clams and on the second one I realized these small snails were boring into it. I tried to fight them off but to no avail. Clam died. How do you get rid of them?

there is only one way to remove pyrams, daily manual removal. an hour or so after lights out remove the food ( clam or snail ) and pick the snails and there eggs off. do this every day until their number decline then gradually reduce inspections and cleanings.

there is no easy way to get rid of these guys.

I have noticed them on my turbo snails but not as often on other snails. I am in the same boat as darkzerox I have the snails and am waiting until I think they are eradicated before I get a clam. I may take out all of my mex turbo snails and see if that will starve the pyramid snails that are left.
