Hello everyone,

I have been wanting a pair of Skunk cleaner shrimps for my 10 gallons tank. There is a pair of true perc and two hermit crab in there so far. There will be no more inverts or fish add to the system after these shrimps. My only concern is that do shrimp transmit disease to fish?. I am not going to put the shrimp in quarantine or anything like that. I will just buy them and put them in the tank after acclimation. I really worry that when i put the shrimps in the tank, it will brings with it diseases from outside into my tank and kill my clowns.

I used to have a pair of gold stripe maroon, after adding another damsel into the tank, my clowns ended up getting the disease from the damsel. Needless to say, all three of them ended up dead. It took me so long to restart this tank. That's why i am really worry when adding another fish or invert into the tank.

If anyone know the answer to this, please let me know..

thanks in advance.

Anytime you add anything from the outside you run the risk. They probably don't carry any thing but the water they came in could. You could do what I do and after aclimation tranfer them into another container with tank water. then tranfer them to your display. Most of the time that is probably overkill but it only takes once.

first of all as rule of thumb never but pet store water in your tank. All that money you spend on filtration and you just add some pet guys water to your tank NO WAY that guy doesnt love your fish like you (do net them out then you wont have a prob).

Next no the skunk shrimp will not get your other fish sick. The reason your other fish died is two fold. 1 you had two maroon clowns in a ten gallon tank. These fish are very teritorial and will most likely fight for dominance even in a two hundred gallon tank. #2. the damsil fish is another very aggresive fish which will only cause problems inn any fish tank you add it especially a nano.
The next thing you should know is that Ich is always present in the water no matter what however you will not see an out break unless you tank becomes stressed one way or another.

these shrimp you plan on adding are consitered to be cleaner shrimp so if anything they will help with any sickness you clowns might suffer. now for i final thought i will say that these shrimp do get very large so if you plan on keeping them in a ten gallon their whole live you might want to just get one
