Ive had my ten gallon for a year today.
Take the wheel off of the biowheel. That thing will harbor nitrates. Youll probably want to toss in at least one small powerhead for proper circulation as well. I just nabbed one of those little Aqueon ones for $24 but Im wanting a Jeabo RW-8
My tanks livestock consists of:
Blue spotted watchman goby
Red pistol shrimp
Yellowtail damsel
Royal gramma
4 blue legged hermits
1 blue tuxedo urchin
1 long tentacle anemone
In small tanks I feel like fish have a higher tendency to jump. See about buying or making a net cover for yours.
Start with your cleanup crew. Youll probably only be able to do one "large" shrimp, maybe an emerald crab or pom pom as well with your hermits and snails. Dont be like me and get astrea turbos. Theyll get wayyy big for the tank lol
Let those guys hang out for a few weeks then slowly add your fish stock. Id advise getting a chunk of live rock to seed yours. If thats store bought live sand im willing to bet it was dead by the time it came out of the bag :c
As far as lighting goes one PAR38 bulb would be solid for what you want to do. Youll get some shadowing on either side but with softies it wont matter as much.
Im getting one of those chinese EverGrow LEDs for $90 on Ebay. I suggest getting your lights in order before getting corals as well :3
An auto top off system is a great help in tanks as small as ours. Look at autotopoff.com
I bought the float switch on ebay.. then the controller and mount through that website. Probably spent $30 on that. Spent $8 on a JBJ aqualifter.
Dont forget to buy a decent test kit when you start getting corals. The Red Sea coral pro kit has been good to me.
Also a hanna checker for phosphates will save a lot of headaches down the road when you get crazy algae blooms.
And def keep up with your water changes!
What are the parameters of your tank as it sits now?
