Can someone ID this little green anemone for me please ?

I am just getting into the saltwater reefkeeping hobby, and I bought some live rock from a local guy. He thought that he had been told that these little green anemone were NOT good to hae, but he didn't know why, and he didn't know what they were called. There are quite a few of them, here and there. They don't seem to be running amok, but perhaps they are still bad ??

Four would probably fit on a dime.

What are they, and are they going to be a problem somehow ?

looks like majano anemone, probably don't want them as they multiply quickly and sting other corals.

Well, an anemone slaughter took place when I got home from work this afternoon. I had read up on them and concurred, that its probably majano anemones, and I found a post where a guy was removing them with a credit card and just scraped them off whole.

Well, I went after them today, using a visa gift card and also a dental pick. Most were quite easy to get off. I probably squashed one or two, but the vast majority of them, probably 40 or so, came off whole.

There was quite a bit of collateral damage though, as a rock slide took down a cool looking SPS coral that I had. It looked like a 3" tall tree. Now, it looks like a 3" tall trunk, with two less branches. That sucked !

I do not see any more of them. I'll switch from my 29 gallon rectangular to a 34 hex in a month or so, and I'll inspect the rocks as they come out.

Man, looking at my big pic, I can now see lots that are darn near microscopic. Holy crap. !! Hopefully with a little better husbandry, I can keep the waterborne nutrients better in check and not be overrun.

If you're seeing that many it may be too late. I have a friend who pulled the LR out and blow-torched it just to be sure, and he still ended up with em all over the tank.

I see that I have two of the buggers left, that I can see. What is the reproduction cylce/time for these things ? i.e., how quickly must I kill off these last two ?

I have 2 more that have since surfaced. I may paint them with Kalkwasser and see if they like it. :0
