Hi,

I was recomended to post this in the LPS section after posting in the Zoa area so here I go:

I got this at my LFS where it was labled "Zooanthid Coral". I havent seent it with its polyps out, if thats what those things on it really are. I've never seen zoo's that looked like this so I have no clue as to what it really could be, there for where to place it according to light and current. Thanks for the help :D

I've been looking at different lps trying to figure out some of the things I have, and yours might be a turbanaria (sp?) (pagoda cup). I'm not positive, but may be a good place to start anyway. You can google the words and double check if you wanted to. I'm even less confident on care, so I won't even go there :)

Good luck!

Turbinaria sounds good to me. Looks too large for Cyphastrea. Once the polyps come out, they'll eat everything like mad if spot feed.

Now, how about a LFS that labels that Zoanthid. Totally pathetic. Imagine what other great advice they give out. How can you sell stuff when you can't even identify the most basic of life you are selling? Totally different requirements, totally different types of coral, sad really.

And definitely turbinaria. Thought not the species normally refered to as the "Pagoda Cup." There are several different species of Turbinaria. Check Borneman's book on Corals for some excellent descriptions of the various species.
