Two forms of Caulerpa, potentially C. mexicana (the feathery one) and C. racemosa (the one with small balls or mushroom like fronds.. there are several species closely related to racemosa).

i have two tangs, a yellow and a purple and they dont touch the stuff... and the lights are only one for 5 hours a day. and i have hundreds of crabs.. i am not sure what kind they are thouh. they are just little guys.. not hermit crabs i am sure

Sorry to say but puling it by hand is the only way putting special attntion to remove as much of the runners attached to the rock as possible.
Tang will eventually get at it if you stop feeding him much.

Don't forget to throw it in a ziplock bag, and freeze it for 24 hrs.
to kill it.
Yes, insure it is killed, you do not want it near the ocean.

trdgirl, I have a onespot fox face that decimates the stuff. I grow caulerpa in many forms in my fuge, just for this fish. If you add one he will have it cleaned up in a couple of days

It's really not that hard to manually remove caulerpa. Be vigilant. If you have nutrients and light you will have algae. At least it isn't a green film covering your glass or fine hair that is _really_ hard to manually remove.
