Can These Prices Be For Real???

I believe you are mistaken. Not all single-ended bulbs have UV protection.

I could be wrong, I have been wrong before....but....every single ended mogul 175w and 250w bulb I have ever used (for the past 18 years of home and shop use over fish tanks and in warehouse) had the envelope enclosed in a glass bulb which provided UV shielding.

Anyway, I am really interested in the quality of the 250w 20K Plus Rites.

Uncle Salty, I have been running the 250W 20K bulbs since march. No I'll affects so far. I didn't have a lot of super needy light stuff at the time so I thought what the heck can't go wrong. I bought mine off eBay for 20 bucks apiece. I've had great luck with them, I keep an LTA, and a RBTA, zoos, ricordea's, candy cane, clam, and a few other corals under them now, all showing good color and growth. Haven't had any algae issues show up either. I typically run a 14 or 15 k bulb, but a lot of the reviews I read said that they aren't as blue has a name brand bulb so I went with the 20 k and love the color.

Yes, the 20K look more like a 14 or 15 K bulb.

any single end bulb has a shield over it, the inner piece that looks like a DE bulb is what needs the shielding, provided by the outer piece of glass.

I skimmed through here and didn't see anyone mention it. There was a pretty lengthy thread on here about a year ago, and someone had tested the par on these when they were new, 3 months out and 6 months out. They help there par levels almost too 85-90% @ 6 months out, but they did mention that the colors were a bit lower in kelvin than advertised (i.e. 14K was closer to 10K, but still had some blue...like 11-12K). I cant find the thread, but its on here.

Maybe use google operators to search this site for it, im sure with 10-15 minutes it could be found.

The 250w 20000k metal halides are a little blue, but my corals love em. The tank seems to be much brighter than with other more expensive bulbs. I love em!

Plusrite bulbs are garbage. Please do a search on them before you buy. Know that they are inconsistant and the PAR drops off quickley.

I have used them before also and had PAR tested on several 10K, 14K, and 20K bulbs.

The 14K type seem to perform the best out of the 3 but does not compair to other bulbs.
