can urchins danmage acrylic

is it bad enough that it will cause any viewing probloms
do they scratch deep enough that algae can get and and you cant get it out ( kinda like one of thoise annoying hair thin scratches)

should i just not worry bout it.

i feel dumb asking this
but i really dont want scratches in my acrylic tank lol
btw can astrea snails leave marks?

yippe.. knew i shoulda gone glass lol
how bout this whats worse. danmage caused by us scraping off coralin or danmage done by a urchin

thanks for the help

You should be able to clean off the coraline without any damage to the tank.

There are a number of plastic scrapers that will do the trick. Another nice way is to use "filter floss" like a scrub pad.

yes but coralin then acts the same as sand caught in a pad would

have you ever seen this heated scraper that kills the coralin so taht its easyer to get off?

Well ideally, the coraline will not be allowed to grow in the first place. Daily cleaning (or even ever other day) should keep coraline from even getting started and so should not be in the pad to start with.

And no I have not seen or even heard of a heated scraper

If you clean the acrylic regularly things that scavenge won't go to it b/c there is no food. If i dont clean my glass my snails will.

Also if you have scratches you can get rid of them. Not to mention most scratches on the inside of acylic tanks will disapear.

true. good point
or i can always let them eat off the side of the tank . and pry they dont wander to far ( side of the tank cant be seen

Old credit card is easy way to scrape coralline. As far as the urchin, I have one that hitchiked in on a piece of lr. It was a little larger than a nickel When I first saw it. Now, that urchin is close to the size of a baseball. It will clear coralline off of my rock, but I have never seen it on the side of my tank. I am not to worried about it scratching my acrylic since I do that myself :)

LMAO thats funny. " since i do that my self"

anyways i doubt ill have any neat lil hitch hikers since my rock isnt very porus and also really dry when i got it

My urchin came with one of the three pieces of aquacultured live rock I got from an lfs. My tonga rock had lots of snails and whatnot that sorta popped up months later.

yeah my old LR had snail hitchhikers that were really cool.
anyways anytime i get live rock i prey for one of these things
coral
sponges
snails
mantis shrimp( yes i want one!)
and
urchin

I have a mantis and a pistol from the previously mentioned aquacultured rock. If you live in florida, I have a friend that is trying to give away some of both.
