Can wrap my head around these dimensions

Ok, so the tank that I want is a 300 gallon that I hope to have by end of year or beginning of next.

I have started to look at some sizes, and it seems that Dr. F & S's Marineland one is perfect. It is 72" x 36" x 27".

The one at a LFS near me is 72" x 24" x 29".

And the one that I just saw on a site is 96" x 24" x 30"???

An 8ft long tank with almost the same dimensions as the one at my LFS but one inch taller and 2ft longer... how can this be a 300 gallon? This has to be a typo right?

I don't know, the biggest tank I ever had is a 75g and tank dimensions are just now something that I am starting to notice, but it seems very confusing.

Help, thanks :)

EDIT: The title should be "CAN'T"

Thanks both of you, that is a handy formula to keep in mind :D

I will be going with the Dr. F&S one, I like the deep tanks, not long skinny ones.
