Can you breed clams?

Not sure if this is the place to post this but has anyone bred derasa's. I have two healthy specimens in my tank and was wondering if they reproduce. Also, can you tell male from female. As is obvious, I don't know anything about clam or mollusk sexuality or reproduction.

Stoli,
Hello! Yes you can breed clams. As a matter of fact there is a fellow reefer friend in your part of the woods that I sent afew maxima clams that were sexually mature. He has done this will success! But it is ALOT harder that you think. I would recommend reading the Giant Clam book by Daniel Knopp to start. This would answer 90% of your question.

Jim,

A hobbyist has successfully spawned and raised maximas? I had never heard of this before. Can you give us some more details?

Thanks, Nathan
