Can you dry coral frags to check for AEFW?

I've had my Acro colony out of water for 35-40ish minutes before while in a car pursuit with my friends stolen vehicle haha. Today it is vibrant and has been growing healthy ever sicne. You'll be fine for longer than you know. I'd say anything after 7-10 minutes I would dip in water for a few just to be safe.

Hm... I'm a bit more interested in the story surrounding the 35-40 minutes of car chase!

But in terms of a frag in open air for 10 minutes or so, it's fine but inspecting a coral this way for aefw is pretty ineffective. You would not be able to see baby flatworms.. Dipping is really the best method..

if you watch videos on the Great Barrier Reef corals are at the mercy of the tides. A lot of colonies end up out of water for hours at a time. They get blasted by direct sunlight too. Just imagine that, it really takes a lot to kill these things. I mean we can literally break them in two and they keep growing. So no, your absolutely fine. When i do my fragging i do it outside and in the sun. I like the extra light and heat to glue. Also when they slime up i expect them to be in a defense mode, which means to me.. in theory.. They are less stressed when messed with.

True, same here in Phuket, the entire low tide turn over they are out of water and at the mercy of the sun, they kinda gloss themselves over to protect themselves...

I was dipping my frags the other night. I set one frag of to the side to check better for eggs and forgot about it. 2 hours later I found it on the counter. I grabbed my magnifying glass and inspected it real quick then tossed it back in the tank. It's never had better polyp extension in the last 3 days lol
