Can you filter too much in a clam tank?

I've got plans for clams in the future....I am presently in the build process though, so I have a while yet. I was wondering, however, if you can actually over filter the water, in effect, taking away any nutrients for clams? I planned to have a canister filter simply running carbon in my sump to keep the water a nice clear color....this with my protein skimmer going....any risk of over filtering??

Yes, water can be overfiltered, but I HIGHLY doubt it would happen with the setup you have described. Unless your skimmer is rated for a tank massively larger than what you have.
