On a reef tank, Can you have a skimmer that is to large.

I am looking a purchasing a new skimmer, and I can get a new AquaC EV2000 with out a pump at a great price.

I would really appreciate it if waterkeeper could answer this matter also.

Thank you every one who helps with this.

Personally I don't see how you can. Of course you can have a huge bubble king on a nano, but that is the ridiculous.

I think you can go 2 to 3 times the recommended size with no trouble.

Regards,

Pat

I have a skimmer rated up to 100 gallons on a 30 gallon reef. I clean it 1 x/week and it works great. I am not sure it can be too big unless the pump is so big it creates current problems in the tank.

Good Luck,
John

Normally I would say no, but that is a big skimmer. What is more is the AquaC skimmers need large pumps to make them work. That one has a recommend pump of an Iwaki MD100RLT which is 2000 GPH and uses over 400 watts of power and costs $360.

I do not know how many gallons it will be, but I will be having a custom tank made that is between 8 to 10 feet long x 24 to 32 inches deep x 24 to 32 inches tall. I have not finished designing what i want yet. I have a 300 gallon reef now that has been a work in progress.
