Can you help me pick out my skimmer

I am going to be ordering a new skimmer to replace the one I have that is crappy at best. I was thinking of ordering the reef octopus XS200 as soon as I can verify that it will fit in my new sump, 12"x48". Will this skimmer be to much of a skimmer for my 75g DT with 50G sump? The next option would be the XS160 or the 8" NBW200 skimmer with the intent of upgrading the pump to a bubble blaster at some point.

I was going to get the super reef ocotpus but I cant see why I should spend an extra $170 on a skimmer rated for fewer gallons. Am i missing something here?

Thanks
Nick

The main difference between the xs series and the super series is the pump. The xs is a sicce pump. The super is a water blaster pump.

I would not get the NBW and upgrade the pump as you will spend more money in the end.

Here is my thinking if I upgrade the pump later I will only be spending about $40 more than if I just buy the super series now. If i upgrade later i will also have a skimmer rated for 100G more than if i buy the super and I will have 4 years of pump warrenty, 1 year from the NBW pump then 3 from the bubble blaster.

I guess i just want someone to double check my thought process and tell me if i am missing something.

IMP you don't need a 8" skimmer body with a 75 gal tank unless you have a very high bioload and you will be dosing carbon

I use a EuroReef ES5-3 style skimmer.
Only 5" diameter by 24" tall with 9"x9" footprint works great on my 150 gal tank.

I don't like to overskim and remove every last bit. With regular water changes not excessive feeding, good live rock, and deep sandbed, I am doing fine.

Just a thought.

BTW: I do have a spare EuroReef body. You just need a collector cup and a skimmer pump. You can have the plastic body for $30 if you want.

The nwb is $50 cheaper but a water blaster is at least $145 plus tax and shipping. Thats about $100 more in my math. What else am I missing?

The 8" nwb is 279 at BRS and the SRO2000 is 449. The bubble blaster on eBay is 205. All would be tax and shipping free.

I really do appreciate everyone's input :) I guess at this point I'll just have to order it and find out how it does. All the octopus skimmers are good right

The XS200 lists a footprint of 16.5" x 15.7". Seems like that would not fit in a 12" wide sump. Are we talking about the same skimmer? RO Diablo XS200? Is it 'Diablo' because it's devilishly red????

The NWB200 looks like the same skimmer w/o the red parts and different pump. Really different footprint - 15.6" x 10.25". I wonder if there is a typo on one?

I have emailed BRS about the foot print of the xs200 and have not heard back yet. On another site it is listed as being much smaller. I don't think I will be getting that one anyway. I think it will be to much skimmer.

I am probably too late but I have the SWC160 in my 65 gallon, which you can find at a really good deal. It works great as long as you dont turn it off. The pump only likes to turn back on if you tilt the skimmer sideways for a second.
* Although I dont think SWC is doing very good now that their owner is in big trouble.

I decided to go with the voice of your experience rather than my wallet. I found a good deal on a new SRO2000 on ebay so I picked it up. I cant wait to get it and start doing some skimming.

Thanks for your input guys
