Can you identify my fish?

Big Bouy

Hi Guys,

I'm new here but have been referring to this forum for ages.

So my question:

I have this guy in my aquarium (see attachment) and have had him for close on two years. Him and my pistol shrimp partnered up from day one and enjoy turning my seabed upside down. When I bought him I knew the name for him but I forgot somewhere along the line and can't seem to find it. Could someone help me?

Thanks!

I think maybe that's a yellow watchman goby. They come in dark brown or black sometimes.
You definitely have a shrimpgoby of some kind, of course, I'm just not sure what kind.

Wow, thanks for all the reponses! I wasn't expecting so many this soon hence my slow reply!

After a *very* quick google search, the results seem to agree with it being a Y-Bar Shrimp Goby. That is definitely not the name I remember being told so the lfs cleary got the facts mixed up when I got him!

Seems to be a good summary at www.fishbase.org/summary/12679

Thanks SJR1976!

Ding, ding, ding, we have a winner.

:celeb2:

ORA breeds them, but I cannot say if it is one of theirs.
I am based in South Africa so without knowing anything about ORA, I'm going to assume that it's not one of theirs :)

Who are ORA?

Well common names, are, er, common. Sometimes it is just what appeals to the person doing the naming, LFS being notorious for being creative. And the other problem is that common names in play in one part of the world may not be the same in another part of the world.
