Can you mix pseudochromis and basslets?

Hey All Delight,

I got a Blue Assesor and a Blue Bar Pseudochromis from them. I also have a clarki clown and a yellow watchman goby.

Everything is going good.

Check out my photopage link to see pictures of the fish (Little Red House)

Colin,

I like that blue assessor. I'm having a hard time deciding which assessor to get, blue or yellow. My LFS has a blue one but it looks nearly black in their tank. Yours has a nice blue color.

It might be the lighting in the LFS tank.

When I got mine I was disapointed with the color while I was acclimating him but once he got into the tank the color was amazing. I would have liked the yellow but they were out of that one at the time. I also already have a Yellow Watchman Goby so it may have been overkill with 2 yellow fish (and a clarki that is mostly yellow).

I wouldn't leave him with fin nipping fish, my clown kinda worked him over a little bit when I first put him in. All's well now, the Assesor knows where he isn't wanted :)

Also they are peaceful but get stressed easily. I got my order @ 9 a.m. and put him in the tank at 10:30. Right away he went and hid behind a piece of live rock and layed on his side. It was so bad I thought he was dead. I turned off the lights for most of the day and he perked up the following day and has been great ever since.
If you get one I'd acclimate later in the day close to lights out. Just my opinion.

LMK if you have any questions about them or marinecenter.com. I added a review under vendor experiances, about 2 weeks ago. Check it out if you want to order from them.

My springeri enjoyed attacking both my Randall's shrimp goby and royal gramma. Be prepared that fish occupying the same niche in a small tank could fight. Have a backup/removal plan, just in case.

I would not mix a Pseudochromis, a Basslet and a Yellow Assessor in a 24.. I would pick one of the three. That is a bad mix IMO, you will end up with one fish in the end....Probably the Pseudochromis

An Assesor is in the same catagory as a basslet, and who has all 3 in 1 tank? Also real life results are more valuable than a compatability chart imo.

The pseudochromis I have is in the rockwork 24/7. If you have nice rocks with caves and holes you will hardly ever see him.
The last thing this fish cares about is his tank mates. Most pseudochromis get a bad rap and 99% deserve it. This species is, again imo, totally different than any other pseudochromis I've heard of or seen.

I was under the impression that the OP wanted all three in one tank? No?

In a 24...again even two is not a good idea. This chart is pretty good IMO and yes, there are always exceptions to the rule, but I would not risk it in a tank this size. Basslets/ Assesors can also be aggressive
