I have a huge uv sterilizer I bought from a guy its 4 feet tall and the body is 4 inch pvc. Its 120 watt bulb. This is what I have running on my 265 FOWLR tank with 60 gallon sump. I know its over kill but I couldn't pass it up. Pretty much installed some HIDs on a friend of mines Jag for it. Question is, will to much do harm or is there no such thing as to much in this case. I have the drain running through carbon . John at FAOIS told me to do that incase of high ozone levels. Any other thoughts.

One of the wholesalers I go to runs about 10x the amt of UV you have on that tank-maybe more..He runs a couple stacks of those 120watt UV's .they sit about 12 ft high as he has the water runiing down the stack -from one to the other -for maximum kill time..No Ill effects..he claims that setup kills all but the largest ectoparasites...and eradicates protozoa as well...

Thanks for the responses. Thats more what I was looking for someone that did have a system running with an oversized sterilizer.

There are two minor issues that I know of: heating the water above suitable levels and UV in high amounts will degrade some aquarium medications (notably chloroquine).
