tried a search, but as you know that is fruitless. even with the google search, it brings back too many unrelated posts just beacause of a common word or two.

anyhow...

how are your glasscages tanks holding up?

anyone have anything odd custom done?

im thinking either a 36x24x24 or 48x24x21

would you do it again?

any pictures?

just tyring to get all and any info i can about each tank before making the final desicion. id love the custom oceanic, but too pricey for me at the moment. would love to go with glasscages, but the limited info i have found seems to be mixed, hence the post. then finally, i can just get one "off the rack", but would prefer a size that is not standard.

Here's my 70 gallon (36 X 25 X 18)

It's drilled.

I also have their black acylic overflow cover and background, they were $25 each.

I also have their oak stand and canopy.

I really like my tank. I definitely recommend them. I have actually been to their shop. Tom, the owner has always treated me right.

hey aquaman,

the tanks very nice as well as the trim. so it looks like it prettys up a bit with a good shelacking.

does the stand look like itll hold up for sometime? how does the frame design differ from other big tank makers like aga/oceanic (that is if you have ever inspected the others)?

one more thing, they dont have a 36x24 stand listed on their page ( i actually cut and pasted the thing lol), how much did they ask for, how tall is it, and was it included in the $60 pickup charge of the tank?

and a side note, dont you think its about time you get your own movie? i bet youd look about as good as jessica alba in those speedos of yours! :thumb:

nice gallery by the way. however, would you be able to take a quick snapshot of the enitre tank stand to get a good feel for a "finished" version of it?

thanks for the help and time aqua,

fp

Nice tank! What material did they use for background? I am hoping to find something more durable than black paper since I want to keep the back clean with a magfloat cleaner.

hey jac,

i think they used black acrylic. im sure you can get a piece custom cut for you at a plastic/glass shop for about $40 or so. remember it doesnt have to be too thick, thats what makes it more expensive.

Yes, the stand is unfinished. I used minwax stain and urethane that comes in one can. I got it at Wal Mart. I think I used honey oak.

The stand is 3/4 oak vaneer plywood and built like a tank. It was all I could do to drill holes for a fan and cords through the back. I don't know about the charges as Glass Cages is only about 30 miles from me.

I can't get a whole tank shot from top to bottom without moving furniture so I haven't taken one yet.

And yes, I think Aquaman will be a movie soon. Why not, everyone else has one.

Glass Cages sells sheets of 1/8" acrylic to use as back grounds. They bend the same color for an overflow cover so it blends in.

Thanks fp and aquaman, how is the black acrylic sheet attached to the back glass panel? Is is glued on or removable?

aquaman, how long have you setup your FO tank? Do you use a fuge?

I just used clear packing tape and taped the background to the tank frame. The stand and canopy cover the tape so you don't see it. I had the background cut to fit over the aquarium frame so I could so this.

You could use velcro too.

The tank has been set up for about 6 months.

I don't use a fuge, I'm using the Marineland Tidepool II and an ASM G-2 skimmer.

Here's a pic.

are you worried about salt spray and your electrical stip sitting right there?

No, it's not as close as it looks in the pic.

You could use window tint as a background also 5% would make it look black. You would be able to run your magnet cleaner over it also. Very cheap $$$ for a 4 ' sheet of that.
