There isn't.. Idk.. Like a more descriptive name for this particular one that anybody can think of as a possibility? I'm dying to find out, and so far most lists I've found give me nothing to show for... :(

If its common as hell or bottom of the barrel you'll prob find ten names for it , means nothing though as common stuff is named by everyone and their dog lol

Seriously though you have a species that comes is many colors , morphs and is not very sought after.

I would give a price tag of about $20 per 100 polyps and that's being generous as in reality I can't give them away lol

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and price is what anyone will pay , now whether it's sought after sorry I don't think it is , not to collectors anyways:)

There they can have plenty time to help you with those type of worries. LOL!!

I don't mean to doubt you, but to palythoa not grow from a mat-like substrate? These live on their own, SOME connected by a stringy goo trail. Reminds me of mycelium. Could they possibly be protoplays?

Yes, I believe those are the same protopalys I had in my tank. They will spread very rapidly and if you let them get out of hand it will be a major undertaking to get rid of them. They will pop up in random places so keep an eye on them. Here is a link to my recent experience getting rid of them.

Protopalythoa is now called Palythoa. The nomenclature has been changed.

Trust me on that, they are Palythoa sp.:bounce1:
They grow very fast and will take over your system if you don't isolate them on their own rock.
Many people call them garbage.

... and please be very careful with their palytoxin!
Make sure you use gloves, goggles, close your mouth and wash everything well after playing around with them. No kids/pets, as aways!

I have heard names like Texas Trash....pretty huh?

Grandis is right, they are a nuisance. They grow 'incredibly' fast and win the wars against pretty much all other corals. I have plenty. I am bad at throwing things away though and no one wants them and this tank is just my putter tank while I wait until I can afford the next level. I only let them live because the tank is also filled with xenia, yellow polyps, blue clove polyps, fuzzy shrooms, kenyas and everything else that people call trash. One man's trash right? ;)

Notice I have them in the bottom middle but they are throughout the tank is small numbers on multiple rocks before I could get to them. Basically, get rid of them/isolate them very well or they WILL take over.

Brown, brownish green, greenish brown, tan, these are all the 'problem' palys and they are all over my tank. If I wanted to get rid of them I would have to take the whole tank down. Beware of these palys! They can be pretty but they WILL be everywhere.

Right island has lots of 'bad' palys. Two rocks in the middle bottom too and some on the left island too. It is hard to kill them without harming the tank and it has to be done so slow they just grow at the same rate. I would go back in time and never never buy them. Only way they are kept in check are all the other 'nuisance' corals I have that also grow fast.

Interesting read. Do you happen to have a photo of them?

This is a fts before removal. There seemed to be a few different color morphs, and if you look at the overflow on the rh side you will see they had started spreading to there. They were growing on the back glass as well behind the rocks.

You can see them in the top left of this pic.
