Candy basslet care questions.

It's my dream fish. I will have one one day, I hope. Tank and I aren't ready just yet although the one on DD is tempting. On DD it says temps to 74 max. I know they are deeper water fish hence will be from cool waters. I keep my reef on the cooler side at 77.5 day and 77 at night. What do you guys think? My only concern otherwise I hear they do pretty well

They are a pretty hardy fish and once they get acclimated they have great personality. Mine liked to swim under overhangs and be close to caves so have something like that in the aquascape. I kept mine at 78F and it did fine. Amazing fish, you'll really enjoy it.

One of the best looking fish in this Hobby . My one is aggresive to anything smaller than it, but it is very shy when someone walks by the tank. Your temp will be fine. I can try to take a pic of my one if you want?

Got my candy basslet today! He's very shy right now. Smaller than I originally thought so my blotchy anthias was chasing him around immediately. Lots of caves and hiding places tho for him. Might have to rehome my anthias tho. He's been starting to pick on everybody lately

I have considered one of these. But I don't want a repeat of my royal gramma who I rarely see because he is always inside the rocks. But if I'm dropping $600 for a fish, I want to see it.

Then this fish is not for you.

I have the temp fluctuating from about 75 at night to 76 during the day. Research seemed to show that should be good for him and tolerated ok by everything else in the tank. He does hide quite a bit. I get nervous sometimes when I can't find him. But he always ends up coming out eventually. Love the little guy

They are, by nature, reclusive.

that is not a good thing, i have lost two to aggression from other fish. they need to be kept with peaceful fish. blotchy anthias are semi nasty. i would be surprised if this ends well for the candy. just my experience.

Everything has settled down. It was just initially when I put him in the tank he went right to the anthias territory in the tank. There are not many fish in the tank. Clown pair, chromis, gramma, a tang and the anthias. I don't plan on heavily stocking with fish. Maybe one or 2 more in the future if that. Would like a helfrichy* fire fish and would really love a blue spot jaw which is actually who the candy shared a tank with at the store for 3 months. It's mostly an lps and softy reef tank more than fish focused. The anthias is probably going to have to go soon anyway. He is capable of getting too big in the long run. He's small now but not for long. I just loved it when I saw him at the vendor. The candy has claimed and been spending most of his time in the opposite end of the tank. That end is where the bulk of the rock and caves anyway so it makes sense.
