Candy Cane Coral

Hi All

I went to the LFS today and they had some candy cane frags for 10 dollars so I bought one got 3 head. I have done some reading on them but I am still going to ask here. What is the best way too care for it ? What should I feed it and how much flow. I will try to get some pic's up tomorrow

Thanks Mark

I think they are fairly easy. I just picked up a frag from a local reefer myself. According to Eric's book - bright, indirect lighting and moderate flow. I think an occational feeding would be beneficial too.

Here's a picture it's much brighter than the picture shows

This one lakes light more, than pure green candycane, and needs more time for recovery. You may feed it, when you'll see tentacles. BTW, has the longest tentacles of 3 candycanes I know - around 1" long. I hope, you have good Ca levels (400-420 ppm).
Neon-green kind is easier.

Also have this kind - it's fastest growing from my 3 candycanes, and also likes light (no growth at 18W combo bulb PC), shorter tentacles. All, except green, were bought damaged and restored very well. Green has lowest requirements (tolerance), bicolor - highest, IMHE :p

Candy canes are one of the best starter corals as they are pretty indestructible.
Here is a colony that I grew out from a 2 head frag in less than a year, I have several but is my favorite.

At the relatively low light (PC 7W/gal for 10g tank) these bi-colors with strong skeletons are slowest in restoring (from damaged) and in the growth. I assume that these charming candies of the photos above are growing under MH?
