Candy cane head loss

Ok, so the LPS forum is batting zero for me so far, so I'll ask in here. Last night, no probs at all with my green candy cane. Get home from work today and 4 out of 20 heads are completely brown with tissue peeling off of them. The other heads look perfectly fine. Anyone have any ideas on what's up, and what, if anything, I should do? Should I cut out the dead heads? thanks

Not that i'm aware of. I've had these guys for quite awhile, fragged them a couple of times...i think I've had them for about a year and a half or so and they've grown pretty well during that time. Never had a problem with them otherwise. Not sure where any crab would have come from either that I wouldn't have had damage from before this. Am I looking for a particular type?

My whitish canes are peeling as well. Have been upping their spot feedings and am now seeing some recovery. They are accepting Cyclopeeze as of late.

I only say this because you don't have a sump listed on you current tanks. When I dump fresh top off water into my tank and not into the sump it sometimes damages my softies. I have never seen any problems on my candy canes but it sounds like the same symptoms. have you dumped fresh water into the display near them lately?

Sorry, the only time I've ever dumped fresh water into the display tank was when it was first filled. I have a 30 gal sump.

I have not seen any fish doing anything to them, but I suppose that doesn't mean much since I don't watch the tank 24/7. Still, I have my doubts. Current fish list is a scopas, foxface, chromis, 3 lyretail anthias, 2 ocellaris.

Didn't you say you found your RBTA on them one day? When was this?

Nope, that was my regular brown with green center candy canes and I moved them right away. This is my all green candy canes, and they're at the opposite end from the two RBTA's

what about some other lps that may be stinging them, I didn't realize it for a couple of days but my brain was stinging the candy canes

Now this is a possibility I have been thinking about. I have an LPS nearby known as the "Agu Thingy" that I got a frag from Griss back in very early '05 who has been kind of a slow grower, but is starting to branch out more now and I wonder if he could have had something to do with it. Perhaps some sort of sweeper tentacle damage or something. I have noted that the 4 heads that were wiped out are all on one main branch, so just that one branch could have been zapped by it if that is the case of what happened. Might make the most sense since I'm not sure what else could have knocked these out this quickly.

Did this just yesterday. Was going to try and move the Agu Thingy, but found that it has fused itself to the rock it's sitting on quite thoroughly. It ain't going anywhere without some serious work. So I pulled the candy canes, cut out the dead heads, and relocated them. Wasn't counting on the Agu to fuse to the rock like this, was kind of hoping to frag it someday. This makes fragging much more interesting. The rock it's stuck to is one of my bottom foundation rocks.
