Candy Cane question

Below is a pic of my candy cane. It appears to be really healthy and happy in it's spot. My question is I have noticed the 'flesh part going up the base /skeleton - or at least I think it is. Is this normal as it grows?

Hard to tell what's happening. The pic is very large and low quality

Yes, that is a normal growth pattern. As the top of the polyp grows outward at the top the flesh recedes at the base.
