Candy Stripe Hogfish in a sps tank?

kpk

Been Reefin'
Anyone have any experience with these fish in an sps tank? Are they jumpers? Are they beneficial to the tank? Eat any parasites etc? I guess they don't pick at sps right? Also are they jumpers?

Anyone have any pics?

Trying to find out a little about them. I really like the look.

thanks,
Kyle

I never had problems with bothering anything, but it did eventually go carpet surfing. I improved my defenses and got another one. It is a model citizen and really beautiful.

Great fish for reef, might pick at small crabs and shrimps, not really parasite eaters though. You might have trouble with them and other wrasses, they sometimes can chase them, and they are jumpers for sure. Other than that, great fish!

Do be careful folks, because as they grow larger they can be quite piscivorous (fish eater). I have seen them mow down on small Clown Gobies when they are hungry, and man do they have an appetite. So be careful with anything small...

I hope this helps you out...

I didn't think that they got large enough to be a danger to most fish. We have one in our tank, but it is quite small (unless I am just thinking about a different fish altogether).

I had one but R.I.P. it went carpet surfing after having it for 8 months. He was a great fish and only messed with some shrimp and small crabs.

I did not have a candy stripe but did have a twin spot hogfish in my 75 gallon SPS tank. Great fish and did not bother anything. I also had a 6 line wrasse with it and they were model tankmates with eachother with no aggression or chasing.

Unfortunately, the hogfish did jump out of the tank and I found it DOA behind the tank on the carpet.. Great fish but you need to protect against jumping.

Great fish,

had one for 2 years before it died. Only thing I didn't like was most of its red slowly turned to black and by the end it had almost no red left.

Anyone else have the same problem?

James

Kpk,

I was asking about this fish on another forum...I was told they will eat all your shrimp --- peppermints, cleaners, fire, etc...
