Candycane corals

Im having problems with my candycane corals. They dont seem to be opening but yet they are not dieing. I was wondering if anyone here that has some Candycane corals could post some pictures of where they are placed in a tank, or give me some tips on where i should place them. I thinking maybe they are getting too much light or too much current.

Mine definitely don't like high flow but I couldn't tell you if they don't like high light or not since mine under pc's.

Mine seem to like it in the middle of my 90. Low to moderate flow and I am running 175w 14K Hamiltons.

Mine are under 440 watts of vho's. They don't care whether they are high up or down low just don't give them too much flow. If you do the fleashy part will pull back. Mine also love to be target fed mysis or arctic pods close to lights out when the feeders come out. They can really be little pigs! It is amazing how much mysis one head can eat. HTH

Mine are 20 inches down from a 250 mh and thriving. I have them perched on the edge of a cliff so they get the upwell from off the face of it. They feed during the day or anytime there's food in the water.

Here are a few pictures of my various candy canes. IME, candycanes need moderate light and flow and with proper calcium and alkalinity levels your candycanes should be really meaty. Good Luck!

Mine are under a 250 watt MH, they seem to like it fine.

Mine has just split for the 3rd time in the last month and a half it is growing crazy. They are bluish with the purple stripes

I have it mid level in the tank with deceant flow but not huge amounts. I run 384 watts of pc lights above them. The
danr candy canes when i got them they were in recession but now are plump lookin and always seems to be feeding..

I tried mine under several different lighting types and i found my results as follows:

75 gallon tank:

NO bulbs (with high placement in the tank) - slowly recessed and had little to no extension.

VHO bulbs 220w (middle of the tank)- survived but not what i call thriving.

MH 250W + 220W VHO (any height in my tank)- Are thriving and multiplying with great success.
Im sure that they can do well in other types of lighting, but as for my tank and experience goes; MH / VHO have given best results.
My corals did not tolerate low light.

Flow wise they extend better in a low flow but do fine in a moderate flow as well. Strong flow not recommended.

I agree with 1swtlx. My Candy Cane Colony thrives under my MH. Always nice and full and open. So open they fight each other for space as all the polyps are smashed together. I probally haave 5-6 splits a month on my 20 head colony. I am spot feeding mysis and cyclopeeze.
