well, i've been having plague proportions of hair algae. i've been "told" on a reef forum i use thats based in the uk that the best way is to reduce phosphates and use a reactor.
my tank is only 25 gallons and i don't have much room in the back for extra pumps (i'll one day create a tank post) so i thought instead of using a reactor that could potentially flood my tank onto my floor (resulting in a divorce) i'd use a canister filter, strip the bio media out and use it purely as chemical filter and still make use of the foam screen that the water initially passes over.
on the subject of chemical media i forgot to mention that i have also put a bag of sea chem phosguard ( the aluminium based white beads) in the filter.
i've just done a 15 litre water change so i'm waiting for the water to clear as i type. As its only a 94 litre tank i do a water change once a week ( i grunt when i haul 20 litres which is my usual amount, how do you guys with huge tanks manage?) so when i do my water change on a monday afternoon i planned on cleaning out the canister. As i do all my "jobs" around the house on a monday morning it gives me the afternoon to play with the tank.
back to the original topic though, could my canister be removing all that waste. My bio load is very light with only a pair of clowns in the tank. the system is a year old with the clowns being in about 10-10.5 months.
only got a couple of frags in due to cost of corals over here and with financial constraints.
thanks for your kind responses so far, better then the usual i get
Cheers
John
