Canister filter hooked to another container to add water volume

I have Fluval Edge 6 gallon tank and plan to increase water volume. I also considered to connect a sump and researched how to do; but it seems like too much work. So I decided to add just water volume (~15 G) which will be kind of compromise in my situation.

So this is my plan:

I'll use a small canister filter (without filter media in it) enough to circulate water, and hook up to another water container (15 G), which will be sealed, as described in the figure below.

The outlet and inlet will be connected to HOB stock filter in Fluval edge like in the youtube link:

Will there be any possible issue with this plan? Is there anything to be improved? What do you think?

That appears to be a sump with an external return pump. You could easily do the very same thing with a small internal pump and not have to worry about the canister leaking. The container does not need to be sealed (and probably shouldn't be) because it cannot fill any faster then the Display tank (DT) can drain to it, and the DT cannot drain more than whatever the return pump can supply to it.

It seems like you are trying to reinvent the wheel.

I'm not sure if I'm following you, but the reason why the container is sealed is that you can think the same way why the canister filter is sealed. In principle, I can use biggest canister filter that I can find, but it will be expensive and I don't think there is any canister with that big size. So I attached another container to the canister filter to increase the water volume.

Without sealing, it's exactly the same with the sump as you indicated. Then, I need overflow box, plumbing, etc. I guess. It's a lot of work for Fluval Edge tank.
Somebody actually did it. Check this link out. I'm not sure I can do that.

Is there any concern for this practice? Do you think it is worth try?
I would not recommend this.

If it is coming directly from your tank you will get all kinds of muck in the bottom of your sealed container. If will likely need regular cleaning otherwise it will become a nitrate factory.

Also, im not sure how easy it would be to clean given that it is sealed.

I really would just recommend a simple sump. They are much simpler that you think.

The container has a lid so I will be able to clean it if there is anything in the bottom. I just think Fluval Edge is very limited by the shape. It is hard to add a sump. Should I push more? I am not sure if I can do all sort of plumbing and DIY.

Thanks for the advice though. I'll think slowly about it.
