canister setup?

for starters I have a 60 gal tank with a reef octopus back hang skimmer and 75 LBS of live rock.

I currently run a rena XP4 canister in my tank as well as a 350 GPH biowheel (with wheels removed)

before tonight I ran the canister filter as follows

(TOP)
final white pad
2 pouches of Bio-Chem Zorb
2 bags of bio stars
1 refillable sock of carbon
2 fine filter pads
2 large pore filter pads
(BOTTOM)

tonight when I cleaned it I cut it down to the following

(TOP)
1 pouch of Bio-Chem Zorb
2 bags of bio stars
1 refillable sock of carbon
2 fine filter pads
2 large pore filter pads
(BOTTOM)

I am trying to cut out unneeded filtration that the skimmer can handle in an attempt to cut down on any nitrate production that can be brought on by the filter. cutting out unneeded crap that simplifies cleaning is an added plus!

how does everyone else have their canisters set up?
is there anything else I don't really need in here?

I was running an XP3 until about 6 months ago. Though I took it down every month it was still a source of polution. I have a 75 and now run a HOB skimmer and a Bulk Reef Supply reactor which is driven by a Maxi jet 900 and I put chemi pure elite in it. Tank is much improved over using the canister. Give it a try, you will like the results and not having to deal with the canister.

Half of my canister is live rocks.
On top of that I only run 250g bag of carbon + 200g bag of Purigen.
In addition I have tooosed in 4 bags of JBL Bio NitratEX for bacteria to settle on.
I don't use any socks or filter pads or anything that would have to be cleaned every few days.
Water is crystal clear, I assume it's either carbon or Purigen doing this.

Also I have set my filter to increase flow to maximum for 5 seconds every 2 minutes, trying to flush any settlements from canister. I also shake the canister every now and then.
