Would a Cannon 10D with a cannon 28-105 lens be a good combo for aquarium photography? Not looking for ultra macro shots, full tank shots and semi close ups would be it's main use.

With all of the choices out there I think it would rate as marginal.
The 20D, or 40D would be a better choice. For the lens try something faster, at least f/2.8, 1.8 would be better. I'd recommend the Canon 50 f/1.8, don't let the price fool you - it's a great little lens.

The 10D is still a viable camera but that lens isn't great. The 10D is an older camera so it has a fairly low pixel count and shows more noise at higher ISOs than the current crop. One caveat is that the 10D came out before Canon created the EF-S mount so the cheaper consumer grade lenses don't work with it. A 20D (or higher) would give you more flexibility.
That said, I've got a professional photographer friend who's best selling image was taken with a 10D.

Just curious why you picked that setup? I assume you can get a killer deal on the 10D these days. I had one (still in the closet as a matter of fact) and liked it. It can do a good job, but as mentioned there has been a lot of gains in quality made since it's release. Still, as also mentioned it is a capable camera. Just don;t expect to make huge enlargements from it (probably 11X14 for highest quality. I've made 16x20's but you can start to see it's quality drop there).
