Canon 40D on a Mac (size problems)

Overland04

Wisher of the redo button
I'm having trouble reducing the picture size using my 40D
At it's lowest settings the canon produces a 3.5 to 4mb file. Every time I reduce it to a 50kb size it's hardly still a picture. I's there any program that could reduce the image size and still keep image quality?

I have programs on my Mac such as:

Photoshop CS3
Aperture 2.0
iPhoto
Canon Digital Pro

I've tried some things but I'm definitely missing out on how to do this properly

Pleas Help!

In iPhoto, select the pictures you want, go to the File menu and select export. It'll give you options for different file sizes (like "Web" I believe).

In Photoshop, open the image. Go to Image -> Image Size and then adjust your image size from there.

If you have any questions, let us know.

Yeah I tried that but the smallest that it goes is around 67kb and the picture still looks like crap.
if you look at my most recent pics, I used the canon pro software and they are ok pictures but I see some people with crisp pictures at 680x453 and I cant figure out how?
Grrrr!

Well, I do all of my resizing in Photoshop. I set whatever the long axis of the photo is to 640 and have Photoshop choose the other measurement. I usually set the dpi to 100, but you can go down to 72 dpi if you're aiming for a Mac. After that, save it to a JPEG and choose your level of compression. My files come out to about 150k, but I assume that it's cause I don't compress it any farther and I aim for Windows screen resolution.

I don't know what to tell you otherwise. 50k is pretty darn small.

Oh... I didn't even think about that. Sorry. I don't host the photos here on Reef Central. I use an outside service and just post links to them here inside of [ img ] tags.

There are lots of websites that'll host your photos with free accounts: Photobucket, Flickr, etc.

I didn't know you can post pictures from other sites..Haha I have a Flickr account Ill Just try to post from there.
