Canon 7D - the right equipment with the wrong skill

I own a Canon 7D and the f2.8 100mm MACRO everyone recommends, and I can get O K pics with it, but I know I am only using 10% of its potential, and I am using that 10% poorly!

I have Lightroom for an editing program.

I need help.

You're going to have to give us a bit more to go on. Do you have any previous experience in photography? What are your current techniques for taking photographs and processing them? Do you have any examples of your results?
