canon ae-1 help

i am having trouble with the focusing and lighting. These pictures were taken with a canon ae-1 50mm macro lens. The setting were on 60 shutter speed and fstop 5.6 i and using 400 speed film. I am on a tripod. I am kinda new at the whole manual camera thing. would really like some help thanks for your input

What should I do to get the pictures darker would be the main question and the next one is what shutter speed should I be using

Well I would say shoot raw and you can correct things like that in post processing buuuut....
