Canon Rebel XT or Nikon D50

I haven't shot a Cannon since my AE-1 days. They make nice hardware and have an excellent processing engine. I just went the Nikon route because i feel they have superion 'glass', I get such a fine flat field from corner to corner even at maximum aperatures with exceptional light distribution accross the sensor. The cannon captures the warmer end of the spectrum extremely well, but I like the smooth transitions of the Nikon processor.
