Canopy rest of tank

Hi

i am about to build a canopy for my 180 standard AGA (Aqueon) tank. it will most likely be resting/sitting on top of the tank. i was wondering if all of you out there with your custom canopy doing the same? are we putting too much stress on the glass pane?

Note: Sorry the tittle should have said "Rest ON tank" not "of" typo

Have done it that way for years.

The skin on my canopy is slightly lower than the supporting framework so it hides the trim nicely and keeps it placed right.

I used piano hinge for the fron panel so the whole facade lifts up and out.

I used 3/4" plywood on my last 2 canopies which is a little excessive.
I used about 3/4 of a 4'x8' sheet, so it's pretty heavy.
The only problem was when I had to remove it.
Needed a extra person to help.
