Can't find my mantis

I had found a mantis in my main tank so I waited for him to show up in his usual rock and pulled that rock out. I had that rock in a bucket with water from the tank and an air pump until I had a new tank setup for him.

While he was in the bucket he was still very active and I could see him peeping out of his hole but then when I put the rock in his new home he hasn't shown up once. I confirmed he was still in his rock before I put him in his new tank. I have several hermit crabs and 1 damsel in there with him and nothing has died or eaten.

Any ideas?

give it time, and make sure you didn't block it's exit

its been about a month now. his rock is just laying on top of the sand.
He was green and only about 1/2 inch long, I miss that clicking sound.

well in a month any # of things could have happend, why don't you take a baster and blow into some of the holes on the rock, it'll either pop out a little dead body or maybe it'll run scared.

Soak your finger in shrimp and put it close to the rock Joking I second the turkey baster, or your hermits could have devoured the body by now

ya I'm planning to do something about it next water change. Hopefully I can find him alive rather than dead. How would I get him out if he was dead without smashing up the rock.
