Can't get my fairy wrasse to eat

I have plenty of pods in my tank and occasionally I have seen her pick at the algae. She will not take prepared foods. Its only been a couple of days since we got her. Is there anything in particular that they like to eat?

Thanks, Kristin

What have you tried so far?

Mysis Shrimp is my usual standby for finicky fish, soak it in a little Entice/Garlic Guard/ Garlic additive of choice, and that will usually do the trick.

It can take them a while to start eating dry foods.

I tried frozen mysis yesterday

I tried frozen mysis yesterday

I will try it again today. I only have 2 fish in the tank right now. I am afraid of overfeeding (the other is a gobbie to eat all the pods) So I am really only feeding 1 fish. I wouldn't feel so bad if I could just see her eat a bite. Well, I will keep trying.

Thanks, Kristin

Every fish in my tank goes nuts for the new life spectrum pellets, they all like mysis too.

I have had quite a few fairy wrasses and all of them hid in the rocks and didn't eat much for the first week. Toward the end of the week they would start to get a little bolder and venture out of the rocks and eat. I wouldn't get too worried yet.

Fairy wrasses wont pick at the substrate, so you'll need to offer food that goes into the water column (the pods are probably safe). I would give it a few days or more, and it should come around.

In my experience, wrasse are fish that LOVE live food. While I do bet that eventually your wrasse will come out to eat what you serve, I also bet that if you have abundant food-type critters (pods), there is some snacking going on.
I have had three wrasse and they all have also eaten bristleworms. Mysis shrimp were a favorite. None ever ate a pellet, though.
