I have had tanks for several years and many different types of fish but can't keep an angel of any type alive for over 6 months.I've had some fish that lived for up 9 years but not an angel .just bought a 7" queen and french that lasted all of 2 months.please help as I really like angels.

my question would also be are you QT'ing the fish. angels are known to carry flukes and other parasites that can cause death. i would recommend QT'ing new angels with prazipro.

The Queen and French angels are two of the hardiest fish.

In general, any fish that will eat well should live long, many years.

the queen was in the 150 and the french was in the 240.I quarantined in 55 gallon tank for 4 weeks w prazipro.queen ate right away french stayed hid in the pvc pipe I have in qt tank all the time.they looked great after 4 weeks so I put them each in differant tanks.queen ate up until day before she died .she just stayed hid that day and died the next.french was always bashful ,would be if I wasn't near tank but hide if I came close.no signs of ich or parasites flukes or anything they were both very vibrant in color.mtbiker41

A seven inch fish generally is a sudden increase in bioload.

How did you cycle (for) the tank or how did you prepare for this sudden increase in bioload?

In general, you cannot accept mini-cycling, even more definitely, when you add a single large fish.

The whole idea of accept mini-cycling is foolish. How can you add a very large fish gradually? Not possible. You have to deliberately prepare in advance to overcome the problem of sudden increase in bioload.

Also, when you QT did your fish have to bear ammonia. How did you overcome ammonia problem when you were doing QT?

QT for only four weeks in general is not long enough, but may be your fish did not die from inadequate QT, but some other reason.
