I recently moved from Northern California to SoCal. I had a 50 gallon breeder tank loaded with SPS. I stored my corals with a LFS. During that time the corals did not recieve the lighting they had in my tank (500 watts of 20k metal halide). I bought a new tank (100 gallons) and had my corals shipped. All of them lost colors but I thought once in a tank with strong light and current they would color back up. My acans, favia, cyanorina, clams, and acros have recovered their colors after 2 months. My montis (Tyree green with purple edge, and orange have not recovered. The green turned a light tan (tissue is still there) the orange one has not recovered and is a faded orange. The new growth demonstrates the original beautiful colors however the old tissue has not. Water quality is the same. I am using the same metal halide system in addition to adding a 96 watt actinic power compact and a 4 foot blue LED tube. My old tank was sumpless my new tank has a sump with Vertex skimmer. I have never used a refugium. Has this happened to anyone else? Did your caps ever recover?
