For the past 2 days, my orange cap and orange digitata havent extended thier polyps. Everything else in the tank is doing awesome. I just did a 5 gallon water change this morning. Any idea what it could be? The cap i got from tfp last summer, and had gone through hell and back as i ventured into sps. The surviving piece of that grew from about a half inch across when i first set up the cube and has really taken off the past month now is about 2 x 1 inch. I'd hate to lose this one the most.

here's a couple shots of them. from about 10 minutes ago.

I would start with checking your water parmeters to make sure something isn't out of wack...esspecially the salinity.

Ditto, This is a sign of real problems to come. Because these are "Hardy" SPS, if they are mad......?

Check EVERYTHING
but look at these carefully:
Temp
Alk
Salinity

Have a skimmer, whats it doing.

Fish count?

Run Amonia and Nitrate tests, I added a bunch of live rock once and forgot about the spike and ended up running with 50ppm Nitrate and didn't know it.

What else has happened in the last couple of days?

havent done anything 'out of the ordinary' .. havent added anything, taken anything out. Skimmer's running same as usual. Got class in a bit again, so i'll see how things are later today.

yea its wierd... i would think the less hardy types would show signs first before the 'hardy' ones.

No, from what I've noticed the more you pay for a frag the less signs it shows and they go faster...
Do you add a two part to keep up on alk and Ca? I've been having to dose about 90 mL of each to a 29gal tank lately...and I have to keep a close eye on my salinity as these will make it rise fast...Cl from the the Ca part, and Na from the Alk solution. It works out to me adding about 1/4 cup of salt to the water every 2 weeks. So I have to continually take water out of the tank and add fresh water to it.

Another thing...I noticed you have some soft corals in the tank..do you run activated carbon? A lot of times soft coral will release toxins into the water collumn that SPS in particular can be sensitive to. Most of the time running ativated carbon will strip these toxins out of the water.

duec, yea i just added some new carbon again... a good amount of it. i took the carbon out a couple weeks ago and didnt get to replacing it. Hopefully that will help.

What are your Alk and Ca values? How often do you test.
Do you not use a daily additive like Randy's or B-ionic, Ca Reator, or Kalk?
