captive raised blue tangs?

So my local lfs has two blue tangs for sale and theyre labeled as "captive raised." They're kind of small, maybe three inches, but definitely not the smallest blue tang I've seen for sale.

So what's the deal with these? Are they actual captive bred regal tangs or they just tangs that were caught when they were very small and raised in a tank until they grew and became accustomed to life in captivity?

Captive raised does not mean captive bred. But I would not put it past lfs to confuse the two. There is a wide range of knowledge, from very little to alot, at your lfs. It could also just be labeled that as a marketing gimmick. So who really knows what that means, unless you ask the question at your local fish store. And you will need to decifer whether or not they are telling the truth. Its hard to tell whos is getting what fish from where. I would like to believe that if I go to a respected website and they have a wc png onyx clownfish for sale, I am trusting that clown is wc and came from png. When in fact the website might have a local breeder that is breeding onyx clowns. Point is that we really dont know and the question needs to be asked at the source, in this instance the lfs, what do they mean by captive raised.

I highly suspect they are indeed "captive raised" and most likely purchased from Sustainable Aquatics that has post larval collection in the Solomon Islands.
