Capturing Anthias...

Here's my method of removing fish.

1. Randomly turn on the lights after the room where the tank is in have been off and dark for 4 hours. As in randomly turn on the lights after their bed time. They should randomly go into a shock and swim out and go into the wall IF THE LIGHT PENETRATES INSIDE THE ROCKS.

2. Drain water all the way to floor level. They should scatter outwards before it even reaches floor level. [Sometimes you will have to do it more than once]

3. Starve them til they die :lol2: no jk

They seem a bit extreme, no?....I guess they will in my tank until they outgrow the hiding holes?

I am going away for a month due to work and I don't have any one to feed them atleast twice daily. They are only eating mysis shrimp and don't eat pallets either. So it will be too much burden for my friends to take care of them.

I really like them but I'd rather they live then die in my absence...

I had an anthias that only ate mysis as well. When I had to go out of town for a couple of days, I put an auto-feeder on the tank with small pellets, and hoped for the best...

When I returned home a few days later expecting to remove a dead fish and a large water change due to the ammonia spike, I was surprised to find the anthias took to eating the pellets with extreme vigor, and actually refused mysis from then on.

Edit: This was in my QT, not DT...

When are you leaving to go out of town? Perhaps you have time to ween this fish over to small pellets before you go...

You should be able to. Just add fewer and fewer mysys, and more pellets every day until you are just adding pellets. He may take a while to take to them, but eventually, he'll have no choice...

If they don't take to pellets by Nov try a tiny hook. I've had to remove some fish and use a tiny hook used for fly fishing or off a sabiki rig. Cut off the barb so their mouths don't get damaged. Just have a Tupperware or small bucket ready right next to the top of the tank so when you take them out of the water you can transfer them quickly because without a barb they can/will fall off quickly and will end up on the floor. Good luck!
