Carberryi Anthias

Ambition

I am doing some research on fish on my potential stock list and carberryi anthias are on there (thanks snorvich for the pointer on better color than my other choice!). I can't seem to find any pictures showing the difference between the male and female carberryi anthias. I am more of a visual learner, so pictures are a great asset to me. Does anyone have any photos showing the difference?

Just grabbing photos from google images and going to assume they are accurate (meaning actually carberryi anthias).

Would these be females?

And this a male?

This is the picture QM has for carberryi anthias.

This is the picture they have for evansi anthias.

They do look similar however. So we are thinking first picture top fish male and bottom fish being female?

Those two pictures that you show in post#3 represent 2 color variants of carberryi. You can find a pic of males in Scott's Reef Fishes.

I think I will order that book tonight when I order another reef book I was looking at.

You are talking Volume 1 correct?

Now I am not going to be able to tell what I end up getting from the store. :) Both are good looking fish though, if only the evansi weren't more difficult than the carberryi.

After that last picture it is a little more obvious, but being able to tell which species it is without the other present would be a lot harder.

But the eyes, color of the dorsal fin, where the pink ends on the caudual peduncle, and the difference in color between the pink/purple and the yellow all seems to be clues.

Can anybody that has had these post pictures or your experience them? I'm looking to order a trio soon and wanted to do a little research first.

I found the Carberryi to be easy to keep and they did fine on one or two feedings a day. The ones I've seen and have owned were much less pink than in the above photo in MarinaP's post and were easy to distinguish from Evansi. The LA photo was accurate IME.

I think MarinaP was referring to the 3 book series "Reef Fish" as opposed to the pocket guide (which is a great book).

Hey Small - how's the OSFF harem going?
