Carbon in SPS system

Slow coralline growth. Corals growing slow. Colors off. All params have been perfect for months. Reading that carbon strips trace elements since it removes dissolved elements.

Then I see tanks that run the balling method which is Ca/Kh/Mg with trace elements included and they're tanks look great.

Remember guys, no two tanks are exactly alike. The very same parameters that work like a charm for your tank, may be a complete and utter disaster for mine. Way too many variables; some probably not even researched or discovered yet. I've been using carbon (BRS Rox 0.8) for a few years now with absolutely no issues; corals grow, colors good, and I have two tangs. One has had HLLE its entire life (+10 years) and the other has never had it (also +10 years). So what conclusions can we glean from that? None. Because, clearly, we've had others here who've had some problems using the exact same product. Or maybe it wasn't the product. Maybe it's something else in conjunction with the product...or maybe something else entirely. My only issue here is I think we should be wary of always looking for "The Thing"; either the thing to blame or the thing to credit for what goes on in our tanks. Read and gather research for sure but as you know, research is rarely finished and very often wrong. I recommend exercising patience, discover what works for YOUR tank, then sharing that knowledge (with addendum) with the rest of us. Avoids being hit by bandwagons.

Pardon the ramble. Haven't yet had coffee.

I hear ya. Sometimes I feel like I'm chasing my tail with this tank though

Was just looking at pics from a couple months ago and the colors I have today are better so perhaps I am headed in the right direction.
